PROJECT AIMS
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is the most devastating neurodegenerative disease in adult population. Although the mechanisms underlying AD are still to be fully elucidated, it is known that neuroinflammation contributes to the progression of pathology. Recent evidence highlights that neuroinflammation plays a direct role in the tau neurofibrillary tangles formation, the main hallmark of AD. Interestingly, Leucine-Rich Repeat Kinase 2 (LRRK2) has been revealed as a key modulator of neuroinflammation upon different pathological challenges. This project will explore whether LRRK2 inhibition might attenuate tau deposition and thus be a potential therapeutic target for the tauopathies.
