Fondazione Regionale per la Ricerca Biomedica (FRRB) is a private law institution established by Lombardy Region in October 2011.
Its aim is to promote and enhance scientific research in the field of Life Sciences, particularly in the biomedical field.
FRRB represents one of the main strategic platforms for boosting progress, research, development and innovation in hospitals, universities and research centres focused on biomedical research and located in Lombardy Region.
Its “raison d'être” is to serve as support for the implementation of the regional healthcare research policy, in order to place Lombardy regional system in a leading position in Europe in this field. The Foundation also aims to invest local and European resources in innovative basic and translational research projects to generate positive impact on the local healthcare eco-system and citizens.
In 2016, FRRB has adopted a Quality Management System to improve the overall performance of the organization, with continuous monitoring of risks and opportunities, which is a fundamental prerequisite for responding in an effective manner to its statutory mission.
This led, in January 2017, to the mark of conformity to the UNI EN ISO 9001: 2015 standard in the field of “Promotion of competitive calls for the selection of innovative research projects in the biomedical field; management of project evaluation, monitoring and control processes. Planning, elaboration, presentation, management and coordination of European projects of strategic importance in the Life Sciences field ".
The mark of confimity was awarded by the company DNV-GL.
The renewal and maintenance of the UNI EN ISO 9001 certification is guaranteed every year thanks to:
- Continuous training and information for personnel;
- Participatory management of system documentation;
- The provision of an annual internal audit;
- Monitoring of any non-conformities and adoption of corrective actions.
In September 2018, FRRB has also adopted its own Quality Policy.
FRRB summarizes in its FRRB Ethics Code the values and principles with which it acts and whose respect it requires.
Fondazione owns 10% of the shares of NMS GROUP S.p.A., the largest research and drug discovery center in oncology in Italy, whose companies are active in the field of preclinical and clinical research and in the production of active ingredients and drugs in oncology (https://www.nervianoms.com/).
